Eating Disorder Therapy in Winter Park, FL

You don’t have to manage the eating disorder alone…

Living with an eating disorder is isolating, scary and overwhelming. Struggling to manage your relationship with food, your body, and movement can be all consuming. Therapy can help you understand your disorder, learn effective skills to manage your disorder, and get you on the road to recovery.

  • I work with a range of issues including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, orthorexia, binge eating disorder, compulsive exercise, disordered eating and weight obsession/fear.

I also work with clients who do not technically fit diagnostic criteria of an Eating Disorder. Many people suffer with disordered eating and body image issues. Your struggle is no less valid just because you might not fit all the criteria for a diagnosis.

  • Going to a higher level of care can be scary, but sometimes it is what you need! I will assess to make sure outpatient therapy is the best fit for you. I may recommend you work with an Eating Disorder Dietician (if you are not already).

If you do need a higher level of care, we will work on finding what is best for you. I will support you in getting set up with the services you need!

  • My first focus is to get to know you as an individual. We will explore your thoughts, feelings, and behavior related to food, exercise and your body. I am a Health At Every Size® (HAES®) therapist and this informs my work with all clients, but especially those with eating disorders or disordered eating.

If receiving a formal diagnosis is important to you, I will use my clinical judgment and expertise to determine if you fit the criteria for an eating disorder.

Please note that establishing a diagnosis can take a minimum of 3 sessions and sometimes requires more.

If receiving a formal diagnosis is not what you’re seeking, we can still treat your symptoms and help you overcome your food, exercise and body image struggles.

The Health at Every Size® (HAES®) Approach

According to the Association for Size Diversity and Health, “The Health At Every Size® (HAES®) approach is a continuously evolving alternative to the weight-centered approach to treating clients and patients of all sizes. It is also a movement working to promote size acceptance, to end weight discrimination, and to lessen the cultural obsession with weight loss and thinness. The HAES approach promotes balanced eating, life-enhancing physical activity, and respect for the diversity of body shapes and sizes.”

Health At Every Size® Principles

Weight Inclusivity

Accept and respect the inherent diversity of body shapes and sizes and reject the idealizing or pathologizing of specific weights.

Health Enhancement

Support health policies that improve and equalize access to information and services, and personal practices that improve human well-being, including attention to individual physical, economic, social, spiritual, emotional, and other needs.

Respectful Care

Acknowledge our biases, and work to end weight discrimination, weight stigma, and weight bias. Provide information and services from an understanding that socio-economic status, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, and other identities impact weight stigma and support environments that address these inequities.

Eating for Well-being

Promote flexible, individualized eating based on hunger, satiety, nutritional needs, and pleasure, rather than any externally regulated eating plan focused on weight control.

Life-Enhancing Movement

Support physical activities that allow people of all sizes, abilities, and interests to engage in enjoyable movement, to the degree that they choose.
